After Megan and Brett's Ceremony at The UGA Chapel, they held a beautiful reception at The Thompson House and Gardens in Bogart.Megan and Brett included in their reception a Western Pennsylvania Tradition (that I'd never seen) called The Apron Dance. I'll try to explain it here, next to the corresponding photo. In this first picture you see the maid of honor with the bag for the cash, the best man who will help hand out the shots, and the caterer with the tray of whiskey.First things first, this tradition is all about the Polka. So each guest is invited to pay a few dollars cash to have a quick, 5-10 second dance with the bride and a shot of liquor.After their dance and shot, the guests start a circle of dancing around the bride. Once all of the guests have had their turn, the Mother of the Bride begins dancing with the bride and the circle of dancing guests closes around them.It is at this point that the groom has to break through the dancing guests to take his bride from her mom.Once the groom makes his way in it is traditional for him to pick up his bride, carry her away and off to the honeymoon. Since we weren't ready for the party to end they had a dance together, and we continued to celebrate into the night. It was a great way to get all of the guests on the dance floor, drinking, dancing, and having a great time! Congratulations Brett and Megan! Kaysie and Kelsy's Red and Black themed wedding was beautiful. The ceremony was held at The UGA Chapel and officiated by Don Randall of Sacred Ceremonies. The ceremony was followed by a reception at The Foundry Park Inn who also provided the linens, catering, and the cake baked by Cecelia Villaveces. Heather and the girls got ready at The Hampton Inn on Atlanta Highway, while Austin and his guys hung out at Walker's in downtown Athens. Austin surprised Heather by setting up their first look on the same corner in Downtown Athens where he proposed! We took wedding party photos in Downtown Athens, then headed to The Day Chapel at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia for their ceremony. Megan and Brett are getting married this July at the UGA chapel, with their reception at The Thompson House and Gardens. We took their engagement photos at a private residence in Athens. The owners of this home have created a stunning garden, including chicken coops, ducks, koi ponds, seating areas, and an array of vegetation. It was a great spot for our session! Ellen and Trevor were married this summer at The Foundry Park Inn in Athens, Georgia. The flowers were from Gardenia Floral. Sarah Ketchie played the harp during the ceremony. The reception was held at their music venue, The Melting Point. The Highballs performed, even letting Trevor and his brother get in on the action and sing "Twist & Shout!" The Foundry catered, and provided a cake by Cecilia's Cakes. Hannah and Ryan had their wedding ceremony on the front steps of The Calloway Building of The State Botanical Garden of Georgia. The flowers by European Floral Design created an aisle, and the guests gathered around to watch the ceremony.The talented Kevin Hyde played the keyboards for the pre-ceremony and ceremony music. Laura and Wes' Wedding Ceremony took place in The Day Chapel at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia. It was a sweet and beautiful ceremony. Laura and Wes got married at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia on a beautiful July day.I have never seen a wedding band like Laura's. Isn't it beautiful?And her dress was just perfect. The exact right combination of ruching and lace!Laura and Wes, like many of the couples I photograph, chose to see each other before the ceremony. This allows for a private, personal moment between the bride and groom - the "first look." It also allows us to get most of the wedding party and family photographs taken before the ceremony begins. That way everyone can get to the reception much faster, and the guests don't have to wait so long for the bride and groom! Here are the photos from Laura and Wes' first look.This is the "Men's Dressing Room" at the Day Chapel - It's much more like a closet. A tiny closet that doesn't even hold all of the guys in the wedding party!! Square One Athens Georgia Wedding Courtney Goldman Photography Ceremony Blue Dress Hat

Dawn and Rick are one of the most genuine, high energy, fun, loving, and fabulous couples I've photographed! We had a blast at their engagement session. After being a guest at their rehearsal dinner and meeting their friends and family, I knew the wedding was going to be just as fun! Dawn and Rick didn't do anything "by the books." They were married at Square One Fish Co, a seafood restaurant in Athens, Georgia. In lieu of flower arrangements on the tables, Dawn made the porch of Square One into a "garden party" by covering it in potted plants and trees, which she and Rick have been enjoying in their yard since the wedding! Dawn wore a blue dress and an amazing hat (which was prone to catching wind, as seen here.)Here Rick proudly shows off the wedding invitation, which his friend framed as a gift!Dawn and her father, waiting for the ceremony to begin - and apparently having lots of fun!Rick and the officiant before the Dawn came down the aisle -- he seems to be ready to go!This shows off the dogwoods, azaleas, and other greenery added by dawn. Also, who wouldn't want to get married under a giant swordfish?I love the genuine joy!And love.More to come!

After the ceremony at The UGA Chapel, Kristen and Charley's friends and family went over to The Foundry Park Inn and Spa for the reception. The Foundry is a fabulous venue, with many spaces for receptions. Kristen and Charley's reception was held in the Ballroom.Charley's father made a touching speech.Then... the dancing began! Athens Georgia Wedding Photography First Look UGA Chapel Courtney Goldman

I know that tradition states that the bride and groom should not see each other before the ceremony on their wedding day. I understand that this tradition can add to the excitement and anticipation of the wedding ceremony, which can be fun! It also means that family and wedding party photos twill have to be taken after the ceremony, while all of the guests are waiting.When the couple is open to it, I often suggest that they see each other before the wedding. I like to improve the flow of the day and minimize waiting guests, but I also like to keep the excitement of the tradition!On the day of the wedding, both the bride and the groom get all ready to go, without seeing each other at all. Then, I pick out a pretty and private spot for the bride and groom to have their first look. I don't let other folks watch, but I do take pictures! This moment is so sweet, so special, and so private between the two people who are about to get married and spend their life together. It allows them to hug, to kiss, and to tell each other how amazing they look and how excited they are to begin this journey - and of course, it is a fabulous photo op!I'm happy to talk to you more about this choice, and to help you decide if it is right for you, but in the meantime - here are the photos from Kristen and Charley's First Look.More photos from Kristen and Charley's wedding to follow.
